How much will I get paid from Groupon?
Typically, Groupon pays merchants 46% of redeemed vouchers (50% minus credit card processing). You have the option to negotiate the split but there’s only so high they will go. This ends up being around 25%-35% of your normal fee. I know this may be hard to swallow but I’d like you consider a few things.
If you have openings in your schedule, you’re earning nothing for those. Would having any client booked add to your income? And what if you upgraded them to a longer session or a more specialized service? If they become a regular customer, how much could you earn? A Groupon campaign does make some money for your practice but the real value is in the massive exposure it offers in exchange for a deeply discounted service.
Aren’t Groupon customers just cheap one-timers?
Many of them are but not all of them. Groupon is a great way for people looking for a new massage therapist to find one without breaking the bank. In my experience, the rebooking rate for Groupon clients is about the same as it is for any other lead generator or referrals.
The overall goal is to get more clients on your table so you have the opportunity to retain them. Using Groupon accelerates this process dramatically. Being busier creates an energy in your practice that doesn’t exist when you aren’t providing massages frequently, and that energy creates momentum.
What if I sell too many Groupons?
Groupon used to offer their deals via email blast which resulted in selling lots of vouchers all at once. Now, deals are purchased from their website in much the same way you’d buy something on Amazon. You have complete control over raising or lowering your sales limits to determine how many vouchers you sell, which allows you to speed up or slow down sales as needed.
